Bu araştırma, Berlin Dada hareketinin kurucuları arasında yer alan Alman fotomontaj sanatçısı John Heartfield'ın yaşamı ve yapıtları üzerinden nesne yorumuna ilişkin bilgi ve bulguların tespiti ve yorumunu amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma sürecinde, öncelikle, 20. yüzyılın en önemli karşıt sanat hareketlerinden biri olan Dada hareketlerinin Zürih'te doğuşu ve gelişimi üzerinde durulmuş; Almanya'da, özellikle Berlin'de yoğunlaşmış olan Dada etkinliklerine ilişkin tarihsel belge ve bilgilere yer verilmiştir. John Heartfield{u201F}ın fotomontaj teknikleri, Berlin Dada hareketinin 20. yüzyıl Avangart sanat yönelimleri üzerindeki etkileri konusunda bugüne kadar yapılan araştırmaların odağını oluşturmaktadır. Siyasal tarih içinde Berlin Dada, fotomontajı, Zürih Dada{u201F}dan daha keskin bir hiciv formu olarak kullanmış ve bu tekniklerle,"Weimar Cumhuriyeti"ne yönelik aktivist muhalefetin temelini oluŞturmuŞtur. Nitekim birçok sanat kuramcısı ve siyaset bilimcisi, Alman Komünist Partisi (KPD) üyesi olan ve bu hareketin Berlin'deki sol kanat temsilcileri arasında bulunan John Heartfield{u201F}ı, politik amaca yönelik sanatsal etkinlikleriyle öne çıkan bir sanatçı olarak tanımlarlar. Bu çalışmanın son aşaması John Heartfield'ın yapıtlarını yorumlamaya yöneliktir. Bu da, estetik araçlardan politik amaçlara giden bir sürecin irdelenmesi niteliğinde bir takım yorum ve düŞünceleri gerektirmektedir. Başka bir deyiŞle bu bölüm, John Heartfield'ın bir sanat biçimi olan fotomontaj tekniği ile diğer estetik araçları, büyük kitlelere ideolojik düşüncelerini nasıl aktardığı üzerindeki araştırmaları kapsamaktadır. Basılı medya ve görsel iletiŞim ürünlerinin kullanıldığı tüm bu süreçlere bağlı olarak son bölüm, John Heartfield{u201F}ın gerçek yaŞamının trajik ve coŞkulu izlerini taşıyan, yapıtlarının kategorizasyonuna yönelik analizlerle, kantitatif yöntem araştırmalarını içermektedir.

This research aims at determining and commenting on the information and findings of John Heartfield, a German photomontage artist who is one of the founders of Berlin Dada movement, concerning object comments of his life and works. During this work, primarily, the rise and development of Dada movement in Zurich is emphasized, which is one of the antagonist art movements of twentieth century; documents and information are included concerning Dada activities concentrating particularly in Berlin, Germany. The photomontage techniques of John Heartfield forms the centre of researches made hitherto about the effects of Berlin Dada movement on twentieth century avant-garde art tendencies. Berlin Dada in the political history, used photomontage as a more satirical form than Zurich Dada and with these techniques formed the basis of activist opposition towards 2Weimar Republic3. Thus many art theorists and political scientists describe John Heartfield, a member of German Communist Party (KPD) and a left wing representative of this movement in Berlin, as a prominent artist with his artistic activities towards political goals. The last part of this research is directed towards commenting on John Heartfield{u201F}s works. And this requires some comments and ideas which have the characteristics of a process studying from aesthetic tools to political goals. In other words this section contains researches on how John Heartfield used photomontage technique, which is a form of art, with aesthetic tools to express his ideological thoughts to large masses of people. The last section which is bound up with these courses where printed media and visual communication products are used, contains quantitative method researches with analysis directed towards categorization of his works bearing tragic and enthusiastic traces of John Heartfield{u201F}s real life.
