Bilmek yeterli değildir, uygulamak gerekir, istemek yeterli değildir, eyleme geçmek gerekir. J.W.Goethe Temel sanat eğitiminden ne anladığımızı açıklamaya geçmeden önce: Temel sanat kavramı ve çağdaş düşünce üzerinde duralım. Çağdaş, sözcük anlamıyla aynı çağda, hatta aynı zaman diliminde yaşayan demektir. Ancak bir kavramın salt sözcük anlamından çok fazlasını içerdiğini, zamanla ona pek çok anlamlar yüklendiğini hepimiz biliriz. Çağdaşlık kavramı da sözcük anlamının ötesinde bir anlam taşımaktadır. O halde çağdaşlıktan ne anlıyoruz? Çağ nedir? Çağ deyince insanlık tarihinin belli aşamalarını anlarız. Çok gerilere baktığımız tarihsel gelişim içinde insanoğlunun etkinliğinin geri ve ileri aşamaları olduğunu görürüz. İnsanoğlu yaşam savaşında sürekli yeni buluşlarla çevresini oluşturmuştur, içinde bulunduğu koşullara göre kendi kültürünü yaratmıştır. Bu gelişim sürecinde birbirinden çok farklı kültürler oluşmuştur. Tarih bize bu kültürlerin, birbirlerinden ne denli değişik olursa olsun hepsinin, kimi daha önce kimi daha sonra aynı aşamalardan geçtiğini gösteriyor. Bu çok geniş soluklu gelişmenin tarihte gördüğümüz çeşitli kültürlerin taşıyıcısı olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Çağımız için teknik çağ, bilgisayar ve endüstri çağı vb. deyimler de kullanıyoruz. Öyleyse günümüzde hangi değerlere temel değer diyebiliriz, genel geçer olarak kabul edebiliriz? Bunu kısaca 2Temel Sanat Eğitimi'ne3 verilen değer diye yanıtlayabiliriz. İnsanın özgürlüğü çağımızın genel geçer değeridir ve insanın yaratıcılığına ve yapıcılığına olan inanç, çağımızın genel geçer inancıdır. Bu açıklamalardan sonra çağdaş düşüncenin ne olduğunu sorabiliriz. Çağdaş düşünce özgür düşüncedir, dogmalara bağlı olmayan ve koşullanmamış olan düşüncedir. Çağdaş düşünce bir konuyu nesnel düzlemde irdeler, eleştirir ve değişik yanlarında ele alarak doğruları açığa çıkarmaya çalışır. Bu nedenle 2Temel Sanat Eğitimini3 de çağdaş düşünceye eleştirel düşünce de diyoruz.

Goethe We shall touch on the concept of basic art or modem thinking before we start explaining what the basic art education means to us. The word 2contemporary3 by dictionary defınition means anyone who lives in the same age and even in the same period of time as the others, however we ali know that a defıniton includes much more than whan an absolute word means and it is assigned a great number of meanings in the course of time. The concept of modernity bears a meaning beyond its dictionary definition. Therefore what does modernity mean to us? What is the age? When we talk about the age we think of severel stages in the history of humanity. Looking back at the history, we see that the effectiveness of mankind consists of unadvanced and advanced stages. Mankind has constantly built up its enviroment through new discoveries in its battle of life and created its own culture according to the conditions in which they were and in this development process have very different cultures been created. History shows us that no matter how different they are from each other, ali of them have gone through the same stages, some later and some sooner. We can say that this multi-staged develepment is the carrier of various cultures that we observe in history. We use some phrases such as tecnical age, Computer, industry age and ete for our age, therefore what values can we cali basic values in today's world and consider as generally-accepted? We can simply answer it is the value given to basic art education. Human freedom is a generally-accepted value of our age and the faith in human creativity and constructiveness is the generally-accepted value of our age. After these explanations, we may ask what the contemporary thought is. Contemporary thought is the free thought, a way of thinking which is unconditional and free from dogmas. Contemporary thought examines and criticizes any subject on the basis of object plane and tries to reveal the truth, considering it from different angles. For this reason modern thinking is also called critical thinking in basic art education.
